40 years ago a Tudor icon returned...

Join the Mary Rose for three days of talks and panel discussions to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ship's monumental raising in 1982!

Topics will cover the court of Henry VIII and the impact the Mary Rose excavation has had on maritime archaeology. There will also be the chance to hear from some of those involved in the lead-up to and the raising of the Mary Rose.

The event will be held in the Action Stations Auditorium at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Tickets to attend in person include lunch and refreshments as well as the opportunity to visit the museum at the end of the day.

Raising

Hear from some of those involved in the lead-up to and the raising of the Mary Rose.

Binky Hallett, daughter of Alexander McKee, and Nick Rule, son of Margaret Rule, will be there to talk about their parents and their roles in recovering the Mary Rose.

Pat Baker, Underwater Archaeological Photographer, will share his experience of photographing the ship in the difficult conditions of The Solent. 

We will hear the memories of some of the divers, including Royal Engineers, who were involved with the excavation and raising.

Our panelists include Dr Dominic Fontana, Damien Sanders, Dr Alex Hildred and Christopher Dobbs. Together they will discuss the sinking theories surrounding the Mary Rose.
