The Mary Rose Museum is delighted to announce a special event featuring esteemed historian and author Melita Thomas.
Join us for an engaging talk and book signing on Tuesday 22nd July as Thomas delves into the diverse tapestry of Tudor society, bringing to life the stories of individuals from all walks of life as chronicled in her acclaimed book, 1000 Tudor People.
Thomas, co-founder of Tudor Times and recently featured on BBC2’s Lucy Worsley Investigates, will present a 45-minute talk starting at midday. Drawing from her extensive research, she will shed light on the lives of soldiers, sailors, merchants, minstrels, alchemists, and adventurers—many of whom mirror the diverse crew of the Mary Rose.
Thomas said: “I’m excited to share the narratives of the many fascinating individuals from Tudor times. The Mary Rose provides a tangible connection to these stories, making it the perfect venue for this event.”
This event offers a unique opportunity to connect the personal histories from Thomas’s book with the real individuals who served aboard King Henry VIII’s flagship.
After the talk, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Thomas during a book signing session. Copies of 1000 Tudor People will be available for purchase at the event with 10% off.
“The Mary Rose Museum is thrilled to host Melita Thomas for this enlightening event,” says Darren Hussey, retail and hospitality manager at the Mary Rose. “Her work offers profound insights into the lives of Tudor individuals, enriching our understanding of the era and complementing the stories of the Mary Rose‘s own crew.”
