Mary Rose Trust operates as part of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for ticket sales. All other Mary rose purchases, such as event bookings, guided tours and retail, are solely operated by Mary Rose Trust and/or Mary Rose Trading Company.

 General information 

All exhibitions, galleries, events and entertainments are subject to availability. Please ensure you have checked our website or social media profiles before your visit to confirm availability and are aware of any closures. 

All proceeds from ticket and event sales are used to support the charitable objectives of the Mary Rose Trust, which includes: 

  • To find, record, excavate, raise, bring ashore, preserve, publish reports on and display for all time in Portsmouth at the Mary Rose.  
  • To establish, equip and maintain a museum or museums in Portsmouth, to house the Mary Rose and related or associated material.  
  • To promote and develop interest, research and knowledge relating to the Mary Rose and all matters relating to or associated with her, and without prejudice to the foregoing her place in the maritime, naval, military and social history and her excavation, and display, and all matters relating to underwater cultural heritage, wherever located, all for the education and benefit of the nation. 

We regret that with the exception of assistance and guide dogs, animals are not permitted on site or in the Museum. 

No professional photography/videography equipment is permitted within the Museum without prior arrangement with our Media Team. Visit our press and media page for details of how to contact our Media Team. 

Opening times 

The Mary Rose Museum reserves the right to change opening times, prices, validity of ticket duration and availability of the Museum without notice.  

Museum and site opening times are:
April – October: 10am – 5.30pm (last entry to the Museum at 4:30pm)
November – March: 10am – 5pm (last entry to the Museum at 4pm) 

The Mary Rose Museum is open seven days a week excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (24th, 25th and 26th December) and/or as per the restrictions below. 

Ticket terms and conditions 

General ticket terms and conditions
  • Tickets to visit the Mary Rose Museum are sold via Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, excluding paid events. 
  • Tickets bought onsite, or online cannot be resold, exchanged or refunded. To do so, will render the ticket void. You may be asked for ID to match your ticket name. If you are unable to provide matching ID, we reserve the right to refuse entry. 
  • To alter or deface a ticket (including lamination or photocopying), to offer a ticket for re-sale either in persons or via a third-party, or to improperly use a ticket, will invalidate the ticket and result in confiscation and may result in a request for additional payment. 
  • All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system. 
  • Mary Rose Trust and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Operations reserves the right to change prices at any time. 
  • Gift aided tickets are subject to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations and are therefore not eligible for a refund. More information on gift aid can be found here. 
  • Mary Rose Museum and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard management reserves the right to refuse entry, if for any reason they deem there is a risk to Mary Rose Museum and the attractions and the public or staff on site. 
  • By placing an order, you will enter into a purchase contract and you will be charged. Any discounts will not be applied until the order is accepted, but will be detailed in your confirmation email. 
  • If you purchase a ticket online you will be issued with a digital ticket – this can be printed or shown on your electronic device and be used for each visit. You may be asked for ID to match your ticket name. If you are unable to provide matching ID, we reserve the right to refuse entry. 
  • We are unable to convert paper tickets to digital tickets, a request to do so will not be actioned. 
  • Children’s tickets are valid for individuals aged 3 to 15 years old. Admission for children under 3 years old is free. Under 16’s must be accompanied by adult. 
  • Tickets to which Gift Aid is added are subject to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations and are therefore not eligible for a refund. Gift Aid can be added to any entry tickets, excluding One Attraction day tickets. 
  • A photograph of your ticket will not be accepted as a valid ticket. 
  • We operate a policy of no refunds, exchanges or extensions for tickets bought onsite or online. 
  • Lost tickets cannot be replaced under any circumstances. 
  • Tickets are non-transferrable and you may be asked for ID to match your ticket name, if you are unable to provide matching ID, we reserve the right to refuse entry. The name on the email confirmation does not matter (for example if you purchased as a gift) as you will sign your tickets on your first visit. 
  • Tickets for special events are only valid for the day of purchase and do NOT allow entry on any other date and for any other attraction. You must check the special event terms and conditions upon purchase. 
  • We do not offer ticket extensions. 
  • Additional Gift Aid revenue from the government is split between the charitable trusts that make up Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. 
  • By entering our museums and attractions, you accept that you have a duty to take reasonable steps to ensure your own safety, taking into account any personal medical conditions.  All persons in and around the museums and attractions should behave in a safe manner at all times.
Group tickets
  • Group tickets are valid for 1 day visit only.  
Ticket type terms and conditions 

One Attraction tickets:

  • One Attraction tickets are only valid for one day only.  
  • One Attraction tickets are valid for one attraction only.
  • One Attraction tickets are activated on the day of redemption when the ticket is scanned into the attraction or at point of purchase in our visitor centres.   

Three Attraction tickets:

  • A Three Attraction Explorer Ticket can be redeemed against three Portsmouth Historic Dockyard attractions.
  • Once you have scanned into those three attractions, you will have unlimited entry to those attractions for 12 months.  
  • You cannot switch to alternative attractions without consent from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Operations. This consent will only be given where an attraction is no longer accessible. 
  • A Three Attraction Ticket is valid for 12 months from the date of first redemption which is when the ticket is first scanned in, or at point of purchase in a our visitor centres. 
  • Access to Action Stations is included with Three Attraction Tickets on a complimentary basis.
  • Tickets do not include entry to Harbour Tours,  Laser Quest or Mini Ports. Additional Charges apply. 
  • This ticket is not valid for special events. 

Ultimate Explorer tickets:

  • An Ultimate Explorer Ticket to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard gives 12 months unlimited access to all attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
  • Ultimate Explorer Ticket cannot be used on educational visits, this includes home-schooled families.  
  • An Ultimate Explorer Ticket is valid for one year of unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from date of first scan (if purchased online) or at point of purchase if brought onsite, and can only be used for the attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Gosport sites.    
  • An Ultimate Explorer One-Family Ticket can include one adult and up to three children, and an Ultimate Explorer Two-Family Ticket can include two adults and up to three children.  
  • At the time of booking, a ‘lead name’ individual will be requested for Family Ultimate Explorer tickets. This lead name individual must be present the first time the ticket is used, and you may be asked for ID to match the lead name on your ticket when you visit. If you are unable to provide matching ID, we reserve the right to refuse entry. 
Promotions, discounts and third-party ticket terms and conditions: 
  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be combined or used in conjunction with any other offers. 
  • Any discount entitled to has to be claimed at point of purchase, this includes online or in-person, we are unable to retrospectively offer the discounts on your ticket.

  • Tickets purchased via a third party and promotions tickets, cannot be exchanged, are non-transferable and can only be redeemed by the named ticket winner/ holder. 
  • Tickets purchased via a third party must be refunded by the seller, PHDOL are not liable for the refund.  
  • Promotional offers or vouchers that have been lost or stolen, cannot be replaced under any circumstances. Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be used against special event tickets or memberships.

  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be re-sold. 
  • Vouchers cannot be redeemed online or over the phone. 
  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be used against the cost of special event tickets. 
Education visits and workshops: 
  • General admission tickets cannot be used on educational visits. 
  • School visits can be moved subject to availability of dates requested.
  • Educational workshops cancelled within 21 days of the visit date will incur the cost of the workshops booked. 
Event tickets: 
  • Special events tickets are only valid for the day of purchase and do NOT allow entry on any other date and for any other attraction. 
  • Special event tickets may not include full access to the Mary Rose Museum, please check the event itself for full information, visit our What’s on page.

Accessibility

The Mary Rose Museum and Trust is dedicated to welcoming all visitors. The Museum is within a working Naval Base and certain areas may present difficulties to visitors who use wheelchairs, with a restricted mobility or who are visually impaired. As a safety precaution, we encourage all these visitors to be accompanied by a carer. 

Registered disabled visitors to the Mary Rose should purchase an appropriate ticket according to their age. They are eligible to bring along a carer for free. A complimentary day ticket can be allocated to the carer on request at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Visitor Centre or at the Museum Reception on the day of arrival – there is no need to pre-book this.

Payment

  • All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system.  
  • All cardholders may be subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer.  
  • If the issuer of your payment card refuses to or does not, for any reason, authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery.  
  • Processing is reserved against your card at the time the order is placed, but will not be charged until the order is dispatched.  
  • If for some reason a purchase fails, due to problems with payment details, we will attempt to contact you by phone or email within one working day.  

Security 

  • The Mary Rose Museum is committed to the security of users’ personal information and we have procedures in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of information under our control.  
  • Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. We have measures in operation to safeguard our user database and access to this database is restricted internally.  
  • When you purchase tickets on our website, we collect certain personal information from you (for example your name, email address and billing address). 
  • All such information is held on secure servers and Mary Rose Museum fully complies with all applicable Data Protection and consumer legislation and will treat all your personal information as fully confidential.

  • You agree that all copyrights, trademarks and all other intellectual property rights in the material and content of this website shall remain vested in us or our licensees.

Governing law

The laws of England shall govern the contract between us and any dispute between us will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England. 

Our commitment to provide a service

We will endeavour to ensure that our galleries, attractions and museum, where possible, are available for use by guests.  However, we reserve the right, without prior notice, to close and change the programme of events or offering with museum operating hours.  Mary Rose Trust and PHD Operations in its absolute discretion reserves the right to close the whole or any part of the Museum or Dockyard at any time or to restrict the number of persons having access to the museum or site.  The reason for any closure or restriction provided by this condition may include technical or operational reasons, capacity, inclement weather, special events or to ensure the safety and security of guests or if the Mary Rose Trust or PHD Operations reasonably considers the circumstances so require.
