You will lead and manage the operation and visitor experience at the Mary Rose Museum and, in partnership with the National Museum of the Royal Navy, the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard visitor centre ensuring we are delighting and inspiring our visitors.
Lead and empower the team of Team Leaders to manage the wider team by being positive role models, helping those around them adapt to continuously developing visitor expectations and innovative ways of working, ensuring all KPIs are achieved.
Continuously improving operations by looking for new opportunities, driving efficiencies and directing resource and actions to address and improve areas of concern.
When you are the Duty Manager you will be responsible for all operations and be the key holder —commercial and visitor experience and ensure we deliver sales daily targets

This programme will give those studying in relevant disciplines the opportunity to experience working in the heritage sector as part of a paid internship. The programme will initially run for three years from 2022, creating 12-week placements for four candidates each summer.
Throughout the programme we will be establishing internships in a variety of disciplines related to understanding and caring for our collection and associated archive. This year we will be offering the following positions:
Curatorial Intern – visitor evaluation of different styles of interpretation available in our museum, alongside research into our collection and exploring new ways to exhibit our collection and story.
Conservation Intern – recording and analysing data from the Mary Rose hull, such as movement taken from tell-tale markers and automated readings from installed systems.
Collections Intern – cataloguing and researching material held in our collection, alongside working with new material acquired during the year of the 40th anniversary of the raising of the Mary Rose.
Heritage Science Intern – using analytical techniques to understand the properties of materials in our collection to aid conservation, with a focus on imaging and synchrotron techniques.

Working within the galleries, you will engage and support a diverse range of visitors, sharing facts about the ship and its collection and helping to bring the museum experience to life. You will also have the opportunity to volunteer alongside our Events Team and support our Learning Centre Team.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to meet new people of all ages, so whether you are a student or retired, everyone is welcome!
As part of our training scheme you will undergo an initial induction, shadow an existing volunteer, and full support and ongoing training will also be provided.
Our aim is to have speakers all around the country so we can share the history of the ship and her crew with as many communities as possible. We are always on the lookout for new speakers so why not join them?
Talks can be requested for any day of the week and at various times, but you will have the opportunity to decide whether or not you can fit it into your schedule.
We will provide you with a standard PowerPoint presentation to help you get started, which you would be welcome to add to with your own research as you learn more.
Depending on bookings, you may only do 1 or 2 talks a month. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
While no previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we hope you will have an interest in working with children and young people, are creative, and have an enthusiasm for engaging with others. You will have the confidence and ability to talk to family groups and to supervise fun, hands-on activities. There may be an opportunity to plan and develop family activities and workshops in the future.
We give a full museum, health and safety and security induction to new volunteers
Each year we organise an extensive training program which volunteers take part in to refresh their knowledge which will include Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training
We ask for a minimum of one day a week during school holidays (between 11:00 – 4pm) and one day, one weekend a month
