Wicker flask

81A3288

This wicker flask was found on the orlop deck of the Mary Rose, in a chest believed to have belonged to one of the officers.

Believed to have been imported from the Beauvais region of France, usually these flasks are found without their wicker covering, revealing a spherical bottom, suggesting the wicker acted both as a decoration and as a means of stability. While it was found with the wooden bung intact, sadly the contents had leaked out.
