With a ratter like Hatch, the ship’s dog, on board, it is not surprising that we would find the remains of a few rats.
The shoulder blade, tibia and pelvis of a large muscular rat (most likely Rattus rattus, the black house rat, also commonly known as the ship rat) was found on the upper deck of the Mary Rose. There are only remains of two other rats, an immature tibia from the upper deck and another from the hold.
