Boxwood knife sheath

81A3223

This boxwood knife sheath, recovered with the knife handle still in place, has several interesting markings on it.

Some of these markings, such as the fleur de lis and the Tudor Rose, with crown, suggest this belonged to someone of high status.

The sheath was made in two parts, held together with lead bands. Despite the high-status decoration on the outside, the inside is rather rough and crudely whittled, suggesting that they were customised by the owner to house a specific knife.
