Happy Birthday, Henry!
The Mary Rose launches campaign to celebrate Henry VIII’s 527th birthday

To coincide with Henry VIII’s birthday on 28 June, world class Tudor attraction, The Mary Rose, is launching a week-long campaign of celebratory activities. Events are planned for both London and Portsmouth, home of the Mary Rose, King Henry VIII’s favourite warship.

From 25 June – 1 July, the Mary Rose will staff a cutting-edge kiosk at Waterloo station, only a 90-minute train journey to Portsmouth Harbour with South Western Railway. Over 2 million commuters at Waterloo will see the Mary Rose kiosk, where Henry VIII and his Tudor friends will be at hand to tell you all you’ve always wanted to know about the King’s flagship. The kiosk’s screens will also play Mary Rose videos and commuters will have access to replica artefacts and a range of promotional material. You can share a selfie with King Henry VIII by using #HappyBirthdayHenryVIII and tagging @MaryRoseMuseum for a chance to win a family ticket to visit Henry VIII’s Mary Rose.

Posing with a birthday sash, Henry and Catherine of Aragon will also ‘tour’ London, visiting iconic locations to celebrate his birthday. He will then board a train to Portsmouth Harbour, where a welcoming committee will greet the royal couple on arrival. The group will then make its way to the Mary Rose. Celebrations will continue in the museum’s courtyard, cake will be shared, and everyone will sing Happy Birthday to King Henry VIII on his 527th anniversary. Visitors are encouraged to make their way to the outside of the museum at 1:45pm.

The courtyard celebrations are open to everyone and visitors do not need to purchase a ticket to the Mary Rose to attend. For one day only, the Mary Rose will offer the Henry Birthday Ticket, which will allow visitors free access to the site. They can join in with the celebrations in the courtyard and watch Henry VIII blow out the candles on his cake, plus, meet him afterwards. The ticket will not allow entry into the museum itself but will grant visitors a 10% discount should they wish to visit the Mary Rose on that day (tickets can be purchased at the museum reception. Only one discount will be applied per ticket).
