The Mary Rose is probably the most famous archaeological discovery made in the Solent, between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. During the excavation of Henry VIII’s warship, many exciting objects were found, not just those that went down with the Mary Rose, but had been dropped on the site over the following four centuries.
Some of these post-Tudor objects are now on display in the foyer of the Mary Rose Museum, including ornate clay pipes, pre-WW1 German ceramics and even an 18th century chamber pot!
These artefacts recovered from the Mary Rose wreck site provide valuable insight into the stories of the Solent area.
This exhibition is located in the Museum foyer, and has been curated and researched by Collections Development and Curatorial Interns, funded with generous support from the Garfield Weston Foundation.
