We think it’s a given that the Mary Rose presents some of the most stunning interior vistas in the UK.
Now that Henry VIII’s flagship has been re-imagined in all her glory, our visitors get to see the jaw-dropping sight of the mighty hull itself, towering above them, as they walk the exhibition’s three floors.
But did you know that outside, our views are just as grand? Take our newly-constructed Bridge Balcony – to which only those booking The Admiral’s Gallery or the Wardroom Suite for an event, wedding or celebration have access.
The balcony gives unprecedented views of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and some of the world’s most amazing ships. Just across the way is the unmistakable bulk of HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship and the vessel upon which he was standing when he was fatally shot at the Battle of Trafalgar. Seeing Victory from deck height adds a special dimension to any visit and the area is floodlit at night.
To Victory’s right is the diminutive and newly-restored HMS M.33 – one of only three British warships from World War I and the only survivor from the Gallipoli campaign. You’ll also have an impressive view of any visiting ships; perhaps the UK’s newest aircraft carriers or Land Rover BAR, Sir Ben Ainslie’s incredible America’s Cup challenger yacht, which live just around the corner.
It’s also a fabulous place to watch the sun set over the Grade II listed sea basin which it itself just metres from where Mary Rose was first laid down.
You’ll get all this if you book either The Admiral’s Gallery or the Wardroom Suite for your event, and if you book the Wardroom you’ll be able to eat or meet with a permanent view of HMS Victory through the windows.
