What our visitors say on TripAdvisor TripAdvisor Logo

One of the best museum experiences in Europe

For anyone interested in understanding the past, the Mary Rose Museum is in my opinion one of - if not the - most comprehensive and integrated museum experience in the UK and Europe. (...)

For those who are willing to let themselves be immersed, there is the chance to feel the voices from 500 years ago whispering across the ages. Simply extraordinary.

European Museum of the Year

Citation by the European Museum of the Year 2018 judging panel

"In its final state, the Mary Rose Museum is an exceptional achievement  - a museum that has finally reached its last stage of its progressive evolution which started 35 years ago (1982). It is close to perfection in fields as different as the presentation of historical research, underwater archeology, conservation techniques, experimental archeology, architecture, scenography and virtual reality. The ship is now revealed totally, freed from all the technical drying equipment, with various light effects and film screenings on or above the ship itself.

‘Ship, Objects and People’ are the three elements now shaped into in a fascinating history and an impressive display. The emphasis given to the daily activities of the crew on board and the projections over the decks of the original ship's structure strengthen the human dimension of the Mary Rose."
